School Prefects - 1964

Prince of Wales School - School Prefects 1964

Photo sent in by Peter Carne

Left to Right -
Standing: Angus Welford(Rhodes), Tim Ellis(Scott), John Sharrad(Clive), Tom Jacobs(Nicholson), Colin Manuel(Scott), Andy Fleming(Fletcher)
Seated: Mike Barford(Grigg), Richard Fenwick(Rhodes), J.Derek Milton(Clive)(Head of School), Mr. Oliver Wigmore(Headmaster), Mike Lyth(Nicholson), John Lenton(Hawke), Peter Carne(Nicholson)

After this photo was published, there wass a debate going on over names - Richard Fenwick or Dirk Erasmus?
(Webmaster is finally convinced it is Richard Fenwick, from the evidence below)

  • John Lenton (Hawke 1959-1964) writes:
I suppose everyone looks at their own memories! Anyway, the question about Dirk Erasmus vs Richard Fenwick: it is definitely not Dirk Erasmus - I think it most likely is Richard Fenwick, though I'm not 100% sure. In any case, Dirk was in Clive.
I'm also pretty certain that the name of David Manuel is wrong: it's Colin Manuel. We climbed Kili together from the Loitokitok side in a team led by Alan Potter with a group of other guys (Donald Scrimgeour, Alex Boskovic, all of us studying German with Alan in our Lower VI year, 1963. Colin was the fittest of us all - non smoker, etc., but actually suffered the worst from mountain sickness, I seem to remember.
  • John Picridas (Rhodes 1961-1965) e-mailed on 8th Jan 2004:
Let me put the debate to rest; that is Richard Fenwick, he was Head of Rhodes House, and if you look at the photo of UpperVI - 1964, he is seated Front row 1st left.
  • Tony Chetham (Rhodes 1959-1963) wrote to Webmaster on 20th March 2007:
The guy whose name you are not 100% sure of is definitely Richard Fenwick of Rhodes House. His bed was next to mine!!
  • Webmaster has looked through the 1964 Impala magazine and can confirm that:
      1) It is Colin Manuel, not David Manuel
      2) It is Richard Fenwick, not Dirk Erasmus
